What?
The CSJ Volunteers in Mission is a lay volunteer program sponsored
by the Sisters of
St. Joseph of Chambery for single women over the age of 18. The
goal is to provide direct service
with those in need. Essential elements of the program include service,
spiritual reflection and
community living.
Where?
Volunteers in Mission serve in Connecticut, Kentucky, and Alabama.
Benefits:
Long-term volunteers receive room and board, a monthly stipend,
transportation to and
from the ministry sites, health insurance, student loan deferment,
and an Americorps education
award. Short-term volunteers receive room and board and transportation
to and from the ministry
sites. Volunteers live with a Sister or Sisters, and with other
volunteers as the situation allows.
How
long? Long-term placements last from nine months to two
years. Our program is unique
because we offer many short-term placements as well. These can be
from one week to three
months anytime throughout the year.
Opportunities include: Childcare,
tutoring, social outreach, camp counselor and teaching.
Other opportunities include teacher’s aide, family life education,
soup kitchen, parish involvement,
after-school programs, health services and spiritual outreach.
